In this article we will try to go beyond the most evident use of a microwave cabinet, which certainly is to save space and to better organize your kitchen, and focus on how the location of the cabinet has to be thought in terms of the every day use of your kitchen.
Location of the cabinet
Most people choose to install the their microwave cabinets inside the kitchen if they’ve got the space to do so. We’ll focus on that in the next few paragraphs.
If your kitchen is big enough, you probably won’t have a problem finding a spot for the cabinet. However, there are a few things to consider:
In the case that you are going to use the oven primarily to cook packed meals (like enclosed pop-corn or pre-made soups), you don’t need the oven to be that close to the sink. But you could certainly benefit from a microwave cabinet with room to store plates and cutlery. So you take something out of your fridge, you put it in the oven, and when it’s ready, you grab a plate from the cabinet and take the food out of the oven and into the plate.
On the other hand, if you use your microwave oven to cook home made meals, you will want to have the microwave cabinet close to the kitchen sink. You can finish your meal preparation, wash your hand and you have the cabinet right next to you.
An additional advantage of such a location, is for pasta heating. Let’s say you cooked an excess of spaghettis and you save the remaining pasta on the fridge. You can take the pasta out of the refrigerator, you put it under the water flow for a few minutes, and it really soften. Then you use a strainer to take the excess of water out, serve the spaghettis on a plate, and put the plate in the microwave oven, for 2 or 3 minutes. When it’s ready you take the pasta out of the oven, and you add salsa, oil or butter and you are good to go.
Another good location for microwave cabinet is on a beverage center or a coffee bar with nooks and a wine rack. This form of setup can be quite appealing if well thought out. A beverage center would most likely have a lot more foot traffic, rather than any other area in the kitchen, and as result this allows for easy access to the microwave oven.
Finding a suitable area in the kitchen to install your microwave cabinet should be a fun process and a good chance to improve not only your décor, but mainly the everyday use of your kitchen.
